About Me

My name is Jaclyn Flomen and I am a Graphic Designer. I graduated from Western University and Fanshawe College from the Media, Theory, & Production program, specializing in Interactive Media Design. I like to take inspiration from 1990s and early 2000s media styles and combine them with modern looks to create my own distinct creative identity.

Despite working and exploring different creative media during the week, I still enjoy being artistic in my spare time. Whether through social media, photography, or makeup artistry; any way for me to interact with people in a visually interesting way excites me. No matter the platform, I aim to be as creative as possible because everyday life experiences inspire me.

Growing up, I was always drawn to photography and art, but didn’t think I could make a career out of it until I discovered a class based around graphic design and the different Adobe programs. I was eager to explore techniques and possible projects that came with learning the new platforms. Being a millennial, I have picked up on technology fairly quickly, but really found my place with graphic design.

Learning that there were multiple university and college programs across Canada that focus on design, helped to clarify my decision to make my passion my career. Ultimately, the decision to go to Western University and Fanshawe College was an easy call. The specialized program, admitting only 75 students for the first year, allowed me to gain insight and have a basis for the foundations of the industry I was going to work in. I quickly learned just how competitive it was, as the original 75 in first year, was cut to 40 for the second year - separating into the four streams. Myself, along with 7 other peers, entered into the graphic and web design stream, where we learned how to code, critically think about the creative decisions we would make, and get hands on experience of how we could implement design into different real-world projects.

My post-secondary school education was the most impactful experience as I could finally visualize how I would excitedly enter the industry, doing what I love. I gained a theoretical knowledge of media, information, and the industry from Western University, while exploring specialized projects and interactivity from Fanshawe College. The combination of the two has allowed me to gain a rounded education and knowledge that will help me in moving forward into my career in media production.
